Govt announce measures to combat waste crime

Waste crime costs our economy £1 billion every year, with an estimated 20% of all waste illegally managed. Here in #WorthingWest, our countryside, farmland and roadsides are too-often targeted by fly-tippers, at huge cost to our local authorities and farmers, damaging our environment and threatening public health. That’s why I’m delighted to see even stronger measures being put in place to combat waste criminals, with on-the-spot fines being increased to £5,000 and the two-year time limit being scrapped on confiscating cash, cars, houses and other assets bought with the proceeds of waste crime. Better use of drones, a bigger role for the police and National Crime Agency, and proposals for fly-tippers to complete up to 20 hours of unpaid clean-up work, all form part of a strengthened Waste Crime Action Plan – and has my full support.
